"Is Mrs. Nussbaum here?" I asked, craning to see past her.
She blanched slightly. "You're looking for the Nussbaums?"
I nodded, a bad feeling divebombing into my gut.
"They moved six months ago, sweetie," she said. She looked at me like she was really, really sorry, far more than she should have been. "After, you know, the accident."
The accident? I didn't like the sound of that.
"Did they leave a forwarding address?" I asked. "I'm Elliott's best friend."
She looked like she was going to say something but thought better of it. Yes, I understood that, as his best friend, I should've known they'd moved. And had his new address already.
