‘Can you remind me why I agreed to this again?’ Khayda looked to his parents again in absolute agitation; he was annoyed that he was being sent to some “academy” for school. It sounded like a military barracks to him in all honest thought—he tried to convince himself otherwise.
‘You will learn much more here than at the schools in the city. Plus, I do believe you wanted to join the sports teams. Trust me, you’ll like the headmaster also, he’s well known.’ Khayda’s father was kind in his response; he tried to smooth out the ripples that this decision had caused in his relationship with his son. He knew it was tough, he couldn’t imagine being taken from his parents at such an age. Khayda was only going to grade ten, yet he would have to stay in dormitories inside the new school—Eden Academy.
‘And you will be much safer Khayda. The city these days aren’t what they used to be, things have changed much worse and we thought back in the Era of Information was the worst.’ Khayda’s mother was always overprotective and always worrying though; even if he were just in the backyard in front of her very eyes. She was referring to Eden Academy’s counterpart, the security organization known as Sanctuary. Some thought they were a military or mercenary organization, but universally, they’re simply just a security organization hired as bodyguards, escorts, guarding buildings, and so on and so forth. If they really were a private military organization, they would have done something about the intergalactic wars going on now.
‘Okay, first, if he’s so famous, why haven’t I heard about him? Second, how can we really trust Sanctuary? I’m sure they’ve had their shortcomings also.’ Khayda was regretting his agreement to join the academy. He didn’t want to be separated from his parents, not yet. Maybe he’ll go there for college or university after he graduated. But not now, not when he’s still going through the usual teen identity crisis, the angst, blah blah blah. Not only that, but he was going to be utterly alone for a while; he only had his parents after all. Khayda was a silent boy and when he spoke, he was often cold in his opinions. Not many appreciated him for that, no matter how right he was.
‘Oh, you’ve heard of him Khayda. And Sanctuary has had a few shortcomings, but not many. The headmaster leads Sanctuary also you know. That’s why it is the most successful security organizations.’ Khayda’s father seemed to know much about the headmaster of Eden Academy and it made Khayda wonder how. Were they part of some mafia? Maybe an underground illegal arena? Or maybe illegal planetary trading? Whatever the reason, it was probably something stupid in his opinion.
‘I doubt one man has that much ability to train some super security that is near impregnable. What kind of difference can he make? Okay, so he’s founded and he’s the headmaster of this grand school, he is the leader of a private security organization that’s independent of the government, but what much else could he have done?’
