The Shield of Faith
an excerpt
She shrieked, wildly and continuously. Her moist self grasping at the body she didn’t want to leave. She was being forced away, and there wasn’t another for her to occupy at this moment. The light grew dimmer and she thought of the bodies she had thrown aside for this one. Fool! I could have stayed inconspicuously as I wanted to be, if only I didn’t get so greedy. Next time maybe I will remember this.
She sailed through the elements and fought every foot of it. The cold breeze whipped at her filmy self, and she became angrier and angrier. Eventually she fell from the sky with a slap. She oozed across the familiar landscape and huddled in her bed of twigs and debris. She was a malcontent and did not enjoy these surroundings. She didn’t realize that when she discarded bodies as carelessly as she did, they did her no use for gaining immortality. She wanted more than anything to gain the respect from her kind. But that was not happening. She was repeatedly defeated. This was her personal hell, she knew but she also knew she could earn her way to a better place, a better condition if only she would attain the proper level of immortality. She would bide her time, bide her time and see what appeared. There were still mortals who were not of faith. They would be for her taking in due time. In due time.
