Excerpt: The Abyss of Dreams

It wasn’t air that flooded her lungs as she floated slowly downwards into some deep chasm of thick, cold pitch. She was freezing from the inside out, her blood turning to frost in her veins. Invisible fingers grabbed at her sides, her feet, her hair, clutching and pulling, and she couldn’t even move to struggle anymore she was so frozen. She was sinking and drowning and she went to look down toward the darkness and where her body should have been something was strange. It wasn’t that she didn’t have her body, everything was there. It was just…off somehow; things were blurry and her skin was much too bright to be submerged in water. As soon as she started questioning it, she found she could breathe again and that was when she realized it.
‘This is a dream’
The blackness began to fade away into white and she willed herself to float slowly upwards and formed the area beneath her that once was a looming abyss into a clean, white surface. She touched down lightly onto it and looking up she was blinded by some cool, blue-ish light--
Saeth’s eyes burst open and she thought she was trapped once again for a moment, only to discover herself lying in the dark of her room tangled in sheets and gasping for breath.
