I can't tell whether he's dead or sleeping.
'What?'
I search for the words to explain. The floor vibrates beneath me in response to Neil staggering out of the room. The kitchen light goes on. There's blood on the floor and my heart is racing.
'Fucking Christ, Jude.' Todd's voice is slurred, but not with sleep. 'You pop a pill and it's not so bad.' He turns his face into the pillow impassively, and I know that I won't get anything else from him.
