Excerpt: Jumpstart

And so there we were. My car, half across the road. Boxers boy reading the newspaper. Bike Guy’s car at complete right angles to the pavement, hood up, Bike Guy bent over it examining the engine with his jeans slowly slipping off his butt. The bored kid from up the road and his dog hunched on the pavement, chowing Flings and staring. Bike Guy’s dad, his car rammed halfway into Bike Guy’s car, screaming down his brick of a cellphone. The Chinese family on the corner, mowing their pavement. The retired guy from down the road watching his dog take a piss. Luvo, his brand new BMW parked safely at the side of the road, gazing at me in bewilderment. A ha de da pecking at the tar. And me. Laughing. Cackling, chortling, guffawing, tears rolling down my cheeks.
