He wouldn’t give me his name. I only ever saw his bag: that black medical bag that doctors carry. He wore a long, black cloak, a black top hat, black gloves, and the most indiscriminate suit possible. I never saw his face; he always kept it in the shadows of his hat or turned down the lamp next to the bed so I only got a hazy image, like a dream.
