Excerpt: Chloe's Story (yes it's lame but it works for now)

The screeching alarm breeched the dream wall as Chloe woke in the musty hotel room. “Today will be my new beginning.” Her feet hit the floor as she padded into the bathroom. The cold tile sent a shiver up her spine. The stark white room certainly didn’t invite anyone to linger, this was a room built for function, not luxury. With a light sigh, Chloe turned the water on to warm and combed out the night time tangles to help alleviate any knots in her twisty inky black hair during washing.
She stepped into the warm water, closed her eyes, and tried to let the water wash away her doubts. She blindly reached for the shampoo sitting on the edge of the tub and poured a generous amount in the palm of her hand. With a quick rub Chloe distributed the purple ooze on both hands and began to lather her hair with the lavender scented soap. Breathing in the aroma Chloe’s thoughts drifted to home. The home she’d left two weeks ago in search of a life of her own. She’d moved across the country to escape the routine of her life so far, caring for her parents and putting her siblings needs, no not needs, desires above her own. Her resentment of being the youngest in the family grew each time one of her own dreams was dashed in order to support someone else’s. “It’s my turn now, and I don’t need their support.” She tipped her head back, closing her eyes tight, to rinse the shampoo from her hair. With more aggression than necessary she dumped the rinse on her head and began massaging it into her scalp. “I’ll show them. I can do this on my own.” Eager to avoid being late on her first day at a new job, she quickly rinsed her hair clean and stepped from the shower. The rough cotton of the towel certainly didn’t soothe her nerves any but it did get her dried enough to proceed.
