Synopsis: And That's When The Robots Attacked
I'm aiming for "Real Genius" meets "The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath", but with giant robots.
Excerpt: And That's When The Robots Attacked
Not every institute of higher education offers degrees in Mad Science,
obviously. The University of Krankgelachter doesn't
either. Publicly, anyway. No one is going to put "BMadSc" on their
resume, after all, at least not in the kind of ink that can be read
under normal light. It's just tacky. So to all outward appearances,
the University of Krankgelachter offers perfectly normal degrees in
"Engineering", "Biology", and other similarly "acceptable"
pursuits. But to those who need to know, U-Krank (as it was too
cheerfully nicknamed) offers a more select, shall we say advanced,
curriculum. One with a far higher need for Tesla coils, uninformed
test subjects, and impractical glass tubing filled with bubbling green
liquids.
Students who don't meet the standards for U-Krank's advanced
curriculum are either scared away by high tuition fees, a byzantine
enrollment process, and a complete lack of sports teams, or else
they're shuffled into U-Krank's excellent and otherwise perfectly
normal MBA program. Advanced students refer to the MBA program as "the
volunteers". Those few MBA's who graduate typically go on to lucrative
careers; the ability the dodge repeated attempts by determined people
to do horrible things to you for several years is a surprisingly
marketable skill.
The MBA's who don't graduate...let's just say their careers take other
paths.
