Excerpt: The Raspaka Renaissance
“Boss, I want to write an article.”
Boss looked up from his desk, still all layered in papers. “Whaaaaaat.”
“I’ve got a story.”
“Hit me.”
“Huh?”
“Tell me. Come on. Storytime.”
“Okay. So there’s this art teacher named Snoporoskoton. He’s corrupt. He’s ripping people off with his artwork. And! And, he’s gotten into bad magic and hurting nalvots with it.” I kept the symbol real close.
“Oli you do realize the newspaper’s for non-fiction don’t you.”
“No no no no, Snoporoskoton is the art professor at academy. And I saw him myself. Kell! He’s hurt me with his magic! The whole city needs to know this.”
“Got any evidence?”
“Evidence?”
“Oli I take a lot of pride in this newspaper. It’s not a gossip rag. Them’s down the way. You bring me a story, you’ve gotta have eyewitnesses, you’ve gotta have evidence, you’ve gotta have something. Credibility. Know what that is?”
“What?”
“It’s what the Messenger is. And do you know what the Messenger is?”
“Credibility?”
“That’s using your thinker. Now I like your pep though. You’ve seen Talk do his work, so if you want to write, go ahead and do the same as him. Go out and find something to report on then write an article like you see in the paper. You’ll do good, kid.”
