Excerpt: Code Ragnarok: Trinity

Owen leant against the wall in his green overalls watching the egg-heads geek out over Fenris’ behaviour.
He knew he liked that wolf for a reason.

While the egg heads were spazzing he had a palm top jacked into the computer scanning for information, all he had to do was wait for egg head number one to go for a toilet break and strike up a conversation with Egg Head number two and discreetly detach the palm top.

If he son had been here Owen probably would have got the information he wanted in a month. As it was the palm top was almost done for now, it had taken six months and Fenris as a distraction but he was almost done.

And there went egg head number one. Poor guy had been having a lot of upset stomachs since Owen had started working there.

You think he would have learned not to leave his morning coffee unsupervised by now.

Owen sat down on the vacated chair and scooted it forward so the palm top was behind him and he could pull it off without being seen.

“So you really think that wolf is gay? The clone isn’t.” Owen said jerking his head to the screen, where the fox was using the wolf as a pillow.

Egg head two had his eyes glued to the screen, Owen thought he could wave the palm top under his nose and he wouldn’t notice. Instead he slipped it into his sleeve.

“Yes, interesting isn’t it?” Egg Head two said. “Could the difference in sexuality be caused by hormonal differences caused by diet, up bringing, or did the older male just have no suitable mates where he was hiding.”

“Any port in a storm huh?”

“Yes...except...”

“Except?”

“The team that caught them said they were living with female morphs as well as male, why didn’t he pick a female of another species if he was going to pick anyone?”

“You could ask him?”

“Fenris obeys orders but he’s not what I would call cooperative.” Egg head two complained. “And is possible sexual deviancy is not the only unusual behaviour he’s exhibiting.”

“Is that so?”

“Both wolves show dominate behaviour but neither one has tried to make the other submit to him.”

“You want them to fight?” Owen asked.

“Not really, we just want to know why they aren’t.” The egg head said. “Fenris was originally bred to replace the mentally unstable wolf morph solders on our front line if we can find what makes him different from the others we can make more of him.”

“Even with that weird thing with his blood?”

“Fenris only started producing Ragnarok beta after being exposed to the first form of the drug, if we make more of him and don’t expose them then we won’t have that prob...” Egg Head Two turned to Owen. “How do you know about the Ragnarok project?”

“I’m Managarm’s handler remember?” Owen said lying though his teeth. “I was there when the complex got over run by the people rabid on Ragnarok, I’ve seen what it does and it’s not pretty.”

The door opened and Egg Head number one came back.

“Don’t you have somewhere else to be?” He asked.

“I was just going.” Owen said, planning to keep slipping laxative in the jerks coffee even if he didn’t need to anymore. Maybe it would teach him to be nicer to people.
