Excerpt: Inside the Fire

I am a curse.
I was borne in blood to the first sinner. The woman never would have found out if it was not for my own actions. What was done was unforgivable. I spent the rest of my life alone, keeping company with others only out of necessity and hunger. The woman is, of course, dead now. The man, however, is still alive; he haunts me, watches me. He is waiting for the chance to strike, to break me once again. But I will never give up, never submit to him. Even if it is with my last dying breath, a death which I will not return from, I promise with my whole heart, my soul, and my being, that I will take him with me. He made one mistake when creating this nightmare.
He made me invincible. I cannot die; or, I can, but I refuse to stay dead. In a sense, they are the same thing. I am unbreakable; I am indestructible.
I am immortal.
