Excerpt: The Trials Of Elijah Marcus Ash

“Sounds like you got a problem on your hands…” Elijah was fishing for another job. It may pay off, but he had to be careful in how he said things. The buyer had to ask him, not the other way around. It made it easier to prevent buyer’s remorse later. Elijah took some cues from his momma on that end of the deal. He sat there and watched the buyer pick up the phone and dial 911. Elijah had no choice but to pull the trigger. It meant no money, although he went into the crime scene very carefully and took the cell phone and laptop, just in case.

“Yeah, well…I wish he were dead sometimes. My mom doesn’t even like him anymore. She’d divorce him, but he’s threatened to kill her and me if she leaves him. He shot at her once, almost hit her. “

The ball player was trembling. Elijah stepped in and put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. They stood like this for a moment. The next words would have to be chosen very carefully. It had to be the buyer’s idea, but the seed of it needed to be planted.

“So if he were dead, that would be a …a good thing?”

“Yeah. Hell yeah!” There was no hesitation at this.
