Excerpt: The Gingerbread man

The hustle and bustle of the train station meant that they were able to blend in, and make themselves look like they were just two children who had been set down by their parents and told to wait while they went off to buy tickets for the journey. But while Jack and Kate stood before the vast board of letters and numbers, griping one another’s hands, they wondered how they would ever work out how to get to the port, without the help of a grown up. They craned their necks as they stared up at the boards, the letters and numbers all flickering and making way for new information before they had had a chance to decipher what the words had said. They were being pushed left and right by the force of suitcases and large raincoats of passers by, who were too busy, or just to tall to look down and see the children standing there. They held on for dear life though, as they shivered through the cold, determined to stand strong, just as Little Lully had told them.
