Excerpt: Fallen Angel
FALLEN ANGEL
Prolougue
The hunter was losing. However this wasn’t because of lack of experience, he had fought many battles against this particular enemy, but had always before had the protection of his comrades. However with the dead bodies of his allies littering the forest floor around him, he found himself very much alone. Although at the back of his mind he felt like all was lost, he did not let this effect his fighting. In fact his face was as cold and emotionless as his opponent. The battle would have already been lost except for the fact that his foe was tiring, though he too was trying his best not to show anything. Perhaps, if the hunter could have just found that last burst of energy then the outcome might have been different. However, as it was, the hunter was knocked to the ground by a powerful blow to the skull. The foe stood over him, readying himself to defeat the man who had been hunting him for so long. It would only have taken him a fraction of a second and yet before he even had a chance to lunge, everything changed. The foe knew that as much as he longed to, he could no longer kill the hunter, and with a nod of his head he was gone through the trees. The boy who had appeared so suddenly smiled at the hunter, that was the last he saw before darkness took hold of him.
Chapter one
Almost 16 years later…
“She’s going to find out some day you know,” the man whispered angrily, “you can’t keep it a secret forever!”
“Maybe not but I can try and keep her safe for as long as possible.” The women replied with obvious stubbornness.
“Safe? You think she’s safe as she is? You know as well as I do there’s dozens of …people who want her dead and she is totally unprepared, if you call that safe…” The man drifted off into silence, he had known the women all his life, in fact she was his sister and they had always got on very well, until now. He couldn’t understand why Tamara was being so protective over her daughter, she’d known this was going to happen one day.
“We don’t even know if she is-”
“ Oh come on Tamara, you can’t deny all the evidence! The wall she knocked down, the fact she’s never had so much as a scratch, the supposed ‘anaemia’!” He interrupted, getting seriously worked up. Why couldn’t she see it was time to tell Aala the truth?
“Well,” Tamara began her resolve crumbling, “Even if it is true, then you can’t possibly tell me Corvan, that there isn’t just as many who are out there protecting her!” Tamara knew of course that this day would come, but it didn’t make things any easier.
“Look Tammy, I know this is hard for you, you already lost…” Corvan stumbled, not wanting to mention the name of his brother-in–law,” but you have to understand, this is the only chance your daughter has. It’s either this, or you truly will lose her completely!” Tamara felt tears well up in her eyes, she could not allow that to happen, she would not lose another person she loved.
“ It’s okay,” Corvan mumbled, taking her hand in his, “she’ll be okay Tammy I promise, but we have to tell her, it’s for the best. After all her powers are only becoming more apparent over time, she’d be bound to notice soon.” Tamara nodded, it was the only way really.
