Excerpt: Lucian's Castle

Sarah hated planes. They were bouncy and dangerous in the air, and staring at the ground from thousands of feet up was not at all fun. This was her first time going to france and so far the trip was not going well. More than half the people on board were from France and were traveling home from their exciting American vacations. And so many of them spoke little English, and she had no one to talk to. She had decided she would take up the language when she got there, an idea that she regretted now. Moving to France for who knows how long seemed a daunting task, but she had always liked traveling to new places. And boy was France new! She had looked at some pictures online and found it quite to her liking. Especially the place she was possibly going to live in, a huge mansion in some secluded region of France. Apparently she had inherited it from someone who claimed to be a distant relative of her families. Very distant. Because no one in her family had any idea who this person was. Well he was dead now so who cared. Now she could go rummaging into the corners of some huge empty house. Sarah loved houses, especially huge old empty creepy ones.
