Untitled As Of Yet
an excerpt
Allucia couldn't believe it. She was free. Well, not that she'd ever not been free to leave Starfleet at any time, she'd taken a few leaves of abscence when she needed them, but now she knew she was free for good. She'd resigned from Starfleet and never planned on going back.
She'd decided back in the Mirror Universe she was going to go through with it, and all the official processes and procedures she'd had to go through seemed like a dim memory now. Now there was such a finality to it, like a switch had been flipped inside her head.
Even the voyage back to Yamato had seemed robotic and disassociated in a way. She'd slept through most of it, and barely left her quarters. The Themis had even taken her and her family back, even though they were under no obligation to with her resignation. But she knew her now-former first officer wouldn't have it any other way, not to mention the Themis' medical officer, who couldn't order her to rest, but made it clear she needed to. She wouldn't be surprised if the ship still stopped whenever they were able to visit.
Once they beamed down, they had quickly collected the rest of their brood from the Saotomes. Normally the family probably would have stayed for dinner, but with them being as close friends as they were with them, Akane made sure that the Hibikis were sent on their way quickly, seeming to sense her pregnant friend was a little outside herself.
Her brain had refused to believe she was really free until Ryoga and her returned to their home and entered the foyer. It was then that her legs finally gave out from under her.
Her twin boys were instantly on either side of her, supporting her and working together effortlessly to get her seated on a cushion in their kitchen. Ryoga, Katyana, and Ryuame weren't too far behind, the latter of which was asleep on his father's shoulder.
"Okaa-san, are you feeling okay?" Kiru asked. He quickly glanced at his brother who wordlessly nodded back and took a pitcher of cold water out of the refridgeration unit. Hujima quickly poured some into a glass and pressed it into his mother's hand.
She took a sip and nodded. "I'm fine...just..." Allucia found she didn't have words to describe how she was feeling. Maybe because she was feeling a little bit of everything. She decided to go with the foremost emotion, and smiled slightly. "I'm relieved. I'm home. I don't have to worry about taking off for Starfleet any more."
