Aadis was not his only enemy, he realized. Time was against him, trying to catch him off guard, to throw him off balance. Already it had won a victory, a single one but one nonetheless. That single triumph would begin a trend, a descending trend that would pull Euirendel apart from others and from himself. It could do with him what it wanted, and all he could do was desperately try to cling on, to not lose his grip and be sent spinning into its whirling depths.
