Chapter I
Eral
Explosion and battlecry shook the whole world. Flares of magic, bodies, and death were everyday view. They were the meaning of this world.
Eral was not a good place to live for peace-lover. War was its days.
There were 4 races that lived in this so called Eral: Human, Elves, Dwarf, and Zoan. And… what? Oh, no… no, the war was not between the races. Although yeah right, we hated each other and all, but the real war was not between the races. It was more like… between the ‘countries’. Yeah, like they were countries in the first place.
The Empire was the faction that valued orders and laws, while Euphoric was the other faction that on the contrary adored freedom. Was there anything wrong with that? Well… no? Anyway… just try asking them, and they would all say, “it’s just how this world is.”
“Flare! Blasting Fire!”
I ducked, jumping to the back of a well right before the Mage finished his incantation. A warehouse right behind me blew up in an earthshaking explosion. I covered my ears and head tightly to reduce the unbearable noise. Good choice. A second later debris from the explosion blew past me, along with the force of the blow.
“Heal! Heal!!!!”
I quickly scrambled on my foot, ignoring the pain of being hit by the debris. My eyes searched for the one calling for help. It was my duty to heal them. I’m the only one in my division that could…
Then I saw him.
“Agnail! Watch out!!!!!!”
A man smashed me to the ground, right before a shining arrow hit me dead. The arrow struck a nearby tree, that exploded instantly by the magic.
“No!!!”
I frantically tried to get over the heavy body of my savior, to no avail. The man!!
“No!!! The soldier…”
“Fool!!!” The man on top of me turned so quickly, I couldn’t recognize him. “Don’t go wastin’ your life!”
“But he…”
“Shield! Bright Force!”
A fireball hit the man’s shield and exploded before us. My eyes were temporarily blinded by the light that I couldn’t see anything. But that silhouette…
“Seth! I had to…”
“We lost him! Don’t waste your magic!” Seth didn’t even look at me as he swung his shield. “Shield! Shield Propellant!”
His shield blasted to somewhere I didn’t know. But the scream and explosion accompanying his incantation told me he hit whoever had sent the arrow to me. I didn’t take a single second to cheer him for his success. Instead, I rolled around and crawled to the place where the man I wanted to help was. The sound was no longer heard and debris from the former arrow was the only thing I could see.
“You, moronic fool!”
Seth took my shoulder and dragged—or rather threw—me away from the place. I groaned and slapped his hand, but he didn’t even notice my slapping.
“We’re done here! We’re going to withdraw!”
“But…”
“He’s dead!!!” Seth shouted the words to me. “There’s no meaning of you going there! The enemies will spot you!”
“I don’t care!!!” I shouted back at his face. “At least I can save someone! I don’t care if I were to die!!!!”
That did it. Seth’s eyes flashed with something that made me frozen and the next second, I just couldn’t see anything but darkness.
