Synopsis: Artificer's Ball
Israel is just a runaway teenaged dirt farmer trying to find adventure.
He finds it on board the HMS Jerico, and with her Captain, Captain Valkyrie Jones.
He also finds that he's the key to the end of the war, which is good.
Except that he has to end the world to do it, and that's bad.
Excerpt: Artificer's Ball
“What is that?” Harlot asked, frowning, peering at the square, poking it several times.
“That,” Jones said, as she slid a wide device into the bottom of the device, and hit the centre of the circle on it, making the little square light up with white glowing, making both of the other women jump back slightly, “Is an iPod.”
“What in the devil’s name is an iPod?” Harlot frowned, poking at the thing again.
“It’s an antique.” Ganea grinned. “From the old days, before steam. It plays music.”
“How? It has no grammaphone, no wax... no record!” Harlot frowned, poking the thing.
Jones laughed, and began running her fingers over the circle in different directions, making words stream past on the little square. “It has tiny, tiny records inside it, Harlot. In the old days, this was how they played their records.”
“Really?” she breathed, amazed.
“No.” Jones laughed, and flicked a button.
