Brief Author Bio: I wrote two short novels in high school and then quickly gave it up after I graduated. Now I want to get back to writing. I work in IT and application development, so I do a lot of left brain writing during the day, but I'd like to spend more time right-brain writing for NaNo. I won last year, but this time I'm going to try a different genre to write. |

Synopsis: Coldspell
A new student of the magical arts stumbles into an adventure with the Archmagess and Academy Dean Amandine Gelidus. The master of Cold magic is forced to confront a deadly Arsonist-Mage causing destruction wherever he goes, and she must deal with the consequences of her magical power. In being swept up in this conflict, Jeffery learns the art in leaps in bounds, and even discovers hints of a new way in elemental magic.
Excerpt: Coldspell
Olen Clemon's office was down in the basement of the Freshmen class building.
Olen taught intro to fire classes to some students, but he was never allowed to teach more advanced fire classes, except to the rare students to were accepted into the Fire program at the Academy. Small classes, with lots of lab sections were taught by Olen when he had Fire majors in the program. Since the classes were so small, he took a one on one approach with all his students. Any student who wished the opt out of the intro to Fire class and take an extra class in Cold magic was allowed to do so, and most students who didn't opt out, took the Fire class in their sophmore year so as to free up time in their Freshman year to take other classes.
“Come in”, he said, when he heard the knock on the door.
“Mr. Clemons,” Moreno said.
“Mr. Mills, you bring a student with you, perhaps for my class?”
“Jeffery will be joining the Fire program. I brought him here to meet you... I must admit I have forgotten whether you have any other students in the program right now.”
Olen chuckled. Moreno was a traditionalist, and that meant no one on campus with the knowledge of Fire magic. But even Master Frostwarden had disagreed and hired him. “I have two currently, now three.”
“I'm sure you have much to talk about,” Moreno said, as he left.
Olen stood up and closed the door. He was in his fifties, with a buzzcut and violet eyes. He was a proud man, a bit pudgy but not fat. He wore tight clothes, with a red shirt and black pants. He was the North Academy rebel.
“First things first, get your hair cut, find some clothes that won't be flapping about and catching fire, and most important, don't take any of the crap they'll tell you about Fire magic seriously. Fire burns, yes, but Fire also warms you. And you will find that warmth to be very neccesary in the Cold months ahead. Also, my foundations class, for Fire majors, meets each Wednesday, which means tommorrow. We meet outside until the first snow falls, after which we will meet in lab, but you will receive information on that when it comes to it.”
