Synopsis: EFFECTS

Adam grew up in a very bad house. His parents were not good, and they abused him often.
When he was 15, he was then sent to a long term foster house. He was generally happy there, but he still had deep wounds from his past. Although he liked the family at the foster home, he never felt like it was his family. Despite everything that happened to him whenever he was around his biological parents, he still felt homesick. He had this thought in his mind that if his parents truly loved him, they would have realized that they were wrong for acting the way they did and now wanted him back and everything was going to change. He was willing to give them until his 16th birthday to have everything figured out.
His sixteenth birthday came and went. He had never felt so bad in his entire life. He was depressed, angry, frustrated, and every other bad emotion out there.
One night, his friends introduced him to heroin. He was hooked. The depression, the anger, the frustration, and every other bad emotion he had felt had been blocked by the “medicine” that ran smoothly through his veins. It felt good, and he felt good.

Excerpt: EFFECTS

"Did they find him?" Adam asked, not moving a muscle except his mouth.

"Excuse me?" said the doctor.

"Did they find my—my—" Adam could not get himself to say "Dad". He had no dad anymore. His father was now just another man, a man that Adam hated. A man that Adam would never forgive. A man that would pay for what he has done to his mother. A man that would have to pay for what he has done to Adam. A man who would one day be a dead man...

"Yes," sighed Doctor Norman. "He was at the bar down town. He is in custody right now."

Adam said nothing. Good, Adam thought. His father WAS going to pay. His father could rot in jail for the rest of his life for all he cared. He could die in there, and the sooner the better. The sooner his father would die, the sooner his father could go to Hell, go to Hell to pay for what he has done to Adam and how he has permanently ruined his life. His father MADE his life a living Hell, and now his father was going to die and go there. His father WAS GOING TO HELL. He was going to rot. He was going to BURN...Burn for an eternity...

A tear ran down Adam's hot face.

"You know what," said Doctor Norman, "we could bring in a guest bed for you for tonight. We will leave everything else to tomorrow. How does that sound?"

Adam liked Doctor Norman. Adam just nodded, his head rubbing and rustling against the hospital blankets on his mother's hospital bed.

Adam felt so tired...so exhausted...so numb...

A hand landed on Adam's head, holding his head softly, it's fingers gently smoothing out his hair...his mother's hand...

Adam sighed deeply and burried his face in his mother's blankets, tears falling gently onto their unnaturally clean yet soft folds.

His mother continued to rest her hand on his head. It comforted him like no other, so much that the author could not even to begin to describe it. A great peace fell over Adam, and he fell asleep, resting his tired self at his mother's hospital bed.

Everything was going to be okay.

For now.
