Synopsis: Suicide's Ghost
Allison and Owen are a successful professional couple leading a happy life until Owen is mugged and suffers a traumatic head injury. He becomes depressed and frightened, forcing them to move into an old farmhouse belonging to Allison's family, where he begins to insist that he sees a ghost -- a ghost which Allison insists is not there at all.
Excerpt: Suicide's Ghost
She hates falling asleep; wants to be awake in case there’s any change in Owen’s condition. For days she speaks to doctors about the concept of contrecoup, the number of stitches in his skull, whether or not to shave the rest of his long sandy hair – the severity of his fracture, and whether or not he will have to relearn how to walk, speak, and design mouthwashes that kill germs without burning. For days she worries that she will no longer have anyone to fight with about where to go to dinner and no-one to understand how sometimes certain trees on the lake take on the appearance of ethereal glowing green men striding to meet them at the shore.
