Phoenix Rising
an excerpt
There was a sharp knock on the door and Sommer got up, knowing full well that her grandmother was in no condition to think about something as simple as answering the door. Figuring it was someone else coming to pay their respects, she reminded herself that these people mean well and that it would only be a few more hours before she could finally be left alone with her thoughts. And then she’ll deal with where to go from here.
“I can get it,” Tony offered.
Sommer ignored him and walked to the door. I’m not an invalid!
Without bothering to peek out the long, narrow windows on either side of the door, Sommer opened it with a sigh. If someone kills me, who cares? Then I won’t have to figure out what to do next, and maybe my grandfather’s voice will leave me alone.
“Don’t count on it,” her grandfather’s voice said dryly.
