I had seen the photos, the Nix footage. Puff of smoke, the shadow walking. The knoll, that guy. There were a few theories. He wasn’t sure how much I knew, but figured I was no amateur. But I bluffed.
“Badgeman,” I said, dismissive, unimpressed.
“What’s with you people and ‘Badgeman’?” he smiled.
‘Badgeman’ has always been a favorite for newcomers and neophytes to the conspiracy arena. Critically debunked and hardly accepted as even mildly interesting anymore, still the newsmagazines and home-brewed theorists too lazy to do homework still give him some press.
‘Badgeman’ is a bogeyman – he doesn’t exist.
“No, not fucking ‘Badgeman’. The other guy,” he smiled. “I was supposed to pick ‘em up,” he smiled, then chuckled. “But that pinko up in the book warehouse really screwed us. He was supposed to… “
I focused on his eyes as he skipped a beat, casually glancing a few tables down-wind. Relax, I tried to project to him non-verbally… just you and me, Spook.
