Excerpt: Cannibals in the Canyon: A Chaco Mystery

She woke up and listened. She knew she’d had the dream again. It was coming more frequently now, almost as often as the moon changed its face. And it always ended the same way. Not certain whether she really expected to hear it or not, she strained for the sound of feet, hundreds, maybe even thousands of feet, thumping along the hard canyon floor, working their way through each of the huge great houses filled with men, women, and children. In the dream they were relentless. She listened for the first screams.
