Unlike her best friend Marci Gervasio, Claire Tanner did not consider their upcoming summer at their friend Lachlan MacGillivray’s family lodge in the Scottish Highlands to be a dream vacation. Instead, it was her dream shot at fufilling the internship requirement for her Hotel and Restaurant Management degree. Not about to let a perfect opportunity be wasted by distractions, she tasked Marci with running interference against Lachlan’s romantic overtures and sightseeing plans. But Claire’s housekeeping and wedding usher duties are cut short when a series of terrorist attacks thrust Scotland once again into a war against tyranny not unlike the bloody struggles of antiquity that still echo throughout the great Highland glens. As the friends navigate a fourth-generation war, they discover that their fight is more than a struggle for survival or freedom, it is the struggle to grow beyond the limitations of history – to be its master rather than its victim.
