Excerpt: Jack's Back aka Finishing NaNo Novel from 2008
“The hunger…took…over,” she explained. “When…it died…disgusted…ran away…”
Jack shook her again, harder, until her eyes bulged. “I don’t care how fucking disgusted you get with yourself. You kill them. Otherwise you risk them becoming just like you. If you can’t kill them, then you need to kill yourself. Tonight.”
She regarded him and he braced himself. Her muscles had tensed and he knew she was going to attack; when she did, he grabbed her by the arms and rammed his head into the center of her face. Her nose, along with her right cheek, shattered from the force. She staggered back and before she could fall, he snatched her face in his hand and crushed her other cheek, then bore her to the ground, smiling at her, fangs extended.
“If it’s death you want, you’ve come to the right place,” he whispered. “Just tell me now so I can go on about my business.” Jack put ear next to hers, his mouth hovering just above her neck, the tips of his fangs carving hot grooves in her flesh.
He waited and when she shook her head “no”, Jack released her and stood.
“I didn’t ask for this life!”
“Not many do.” She looked shocked and Jack sneered at her. “What? Did you think there was a queue somewhere under a neon sign that offered life everlasting at a discount price?”
