Dead Girl.
Since I was five, the only story I can remember my mother telling - and not to me either - is of the first time she saw me. Everyone of her close - but not really - girlfriends have heard it.
"Once the doctor's placed Georgia in my arms, when we could finally come get her out of the hospital, and she blinked those big, round midnight blue eyes up at me, I knew," she always pauses dramatically here, or takes a sip of whatever alcoholic drink is sweating in her hand, "I knew this angel, my angel, so perfect, so fragile, so beautiful, couldn't be meant for this world. I knew I wouldn't get to hold her close for very long."
It's the story of how she knew, from the first time I looked at her; I was as good as dead.
