Excerpt: Dwarf Star
Just the whirring of tiny wings buzzing over the dead. I waded through the bodies having a hard time stomaching any of the sights. No matter how much death you saw you became immune to the smell, sight, or burden of seeing so much death. Then I heard a faint cry over the constant whir. She was still alive my heart beat faster. I climbed over the bodies searching for the child. Where was she? I couldn’t find her. Another cry. I looked around. She was in the corner. Naked, pale, blue twilek baby. I rushed over to her and picked her up in my arms. She was so thing. Her ribs showed. I dumped the spice out of the basket and placed her in it and put the lid over the basket once again and knocked on the gate nervously. The gate cracked open.
(14-17 years later)
Blaster at her waist, she walked determinedly. She had a ‘don’t-mess-with-me’ look in her eyes. She walked into the Cantina. The sun blared down from the sky on her blue skin. Her hollow horns draped down her back. She wore a black top, pants, and boots. A man looked at the Twilek strangely as she stepped into the bar. She shot him a glare.
