Brief Author Bio: I am an editorial assistant for GateHouse Media. I basically do it all. I do stories about once a week, I type up press releases and obituaries, I put stories on our papers' Web sites, etc. I am determined to complete a novel someday, and joined NaNoWriMo for the first time this year in hopes of doing just that. It's all in the motivation. |

Excerpt: Dark Dreams
Danielle was surrounded by family and friends for her Sweet 16 birthday bash. Everyone she could ever hope for showed up for the event. Her mother and father came around the corner from the kitchen with a birthday cake in their hands. Everyone erupted in song.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Danielle, happy birthday to you!” Everyone applauded as Danielle blew out the candles. But once she did, everyone was gone. Danielle sat at the foot of the table in complete darkness and removed her party hat.
“Where did everyone go?” Danielle called out. But the only sound was the echo of her own voice. She strained her eyes to see what was around her. And as her eyes adjusted, a single candle lit about 20 feet in front of her.
She followed the candle, wondering where it would lead her. As she got closer, she saw the shape of a woman holding the candle. She was about 35 years old with short, black hair that jutted away from her neck. Her eyes were green and resembled those of a cat. And she had a tiny little nose which wiggled a little right before she spoke a single phrase.
“Proteggere lui.”
