Brief Author Bio:

I've been a writer for years, mostly non-fiction for magazines and newspapers. I've completed one fantasy novel, but haven't been writing for the past two years while my life was in total upheaval.

Synopsis: Chasing Shadows

So far I have two main characters: Faith Martin and Kyle North. They both work for the same organization, the North Foundation, whose main raison d'etre is paranormal research. Faith has done some odd jobs for them, mostly involving photographic evidence of the paranormal. Kyle is currently working on his Ph.D. in archaeology, and has worked for the Foundation longer in a more formal capacity in the UK. They meet up on an archaeological dig in Orkney, a chain of islands in the North Sea of Scotland. Faith's been brought over from the US because of some odd happenings at the dig site.

I have some ideas of what they're going to find when Faith starts taking photos. Her photography and artwork tend to be a blend of psychic photography and ghost photography, which are really two different things.

One of the things Faith begins seeing in her photographs is a woman in particular, who appears to be ill or injured. Ultimately, Faith and Kyle follow the movements of this woman, tracking her with psychic abilities and following up on clues they find along the way. They learn that tracking someone who's been dead more than 1200 years is beyond challenging. Along the way, they both learn about themselves, their heritage, and what they have to offer the Foundation and the world.

Excerpt: Chasing Shadows

"Listen, Faith. I know it's short notice, and I'm sorry about that. But something's come up that needs your unique talents. Is your passport still valid?"

Passport? Where the hell was he sending her this time? She nodded though, lacing her fingers together to hide her agitation.

"Good. We've got a dig going in northern Scotland, and some things have started happening there that ... Well, we believe there are hidden objects and buildings, things that you might be able to find with your gifts. We sent a couple people -- Foundation members -- along, but all they're reporting is a sense of fear and uneasiness. We need something more concrete. We need someone who can help us figure out where to dig."

"Dig? As in archaeological dig? Okay, that's a new one. Since when is the Foundation interested in archaeology?"

"We are interested in many things, Faith. More than you can imagine. Certainly far more than ghost-hunting and monster-chasing. I can tell you the rest while you pack your things."

"Now? You really want me to pack my things and leave now? Mike, I can't afford to do that!"

"What would you be leaving behind? You have no boyfriend, no social life, nothing besides this job and your apartment. And from what I've seen, you're about ready to lose that anyway."
