Brief Author Bio: I'm just a typical young, crazy girl who has dreams of becoming an author. I'm graduating from high school this year and plan to pursue a career in journalism, which is also something I really, really love. I sort of equally love journalism and creative writing. Journalism just often offers more job security. Writing is my life and I would not be the same without it. After participating in my very first NaNoWriMo this year and managing to win while balancing the stresses of school, work, and just general life with writing it's inspired me to write more. I'm not yet finished with this year's novel for NaNo so I will now balance that with my other novel in progress, Animal Instinct. I've noticed that both of my novels concern life for a few outcasts because of unfortunate circumstances placed on them due to a corrupt government. Perhaps that my admiration for George Orwell showing through just a little bit. When I'm not writing or reading, I'm usually playing video games or watching anime/reading manga....or I'm at work or school, but that's something I hate talking about. |

Synopsis: The Shadow of Hope
Everything changed when an apocalypse killed almost every person on the planet. One leader rose up and united the survivors, keeping them alive. Out of gratitude, the people pledged their loyalty to their new benevolent government. Nearly a century later, the population is booming and the masses are prospering with their technological growth. A new dictator catches them unaware and establishes his totalitarian regime that everyone accepts--except for Elsa Payne. Risking her friends, her family, and her life, she begins a daring task to regain her country's lost freedom and dignity.
Excerpt: The Shadow of Hope
I was standing in a cold, dark cell. Water dripped from the ceiling and landed on my nose. I quickly wiped it off, crawling to the bars. They were rusted, but not rusted enough for me to easily break through them. I had nothing on me and had been thoroughly searched. My gun was gone, my daggers were gone; all I had were the clothes on my back.
A boy with spiky blond hair walked up to me, placing his hands on mine between the small spaces between the bars. A faint smile was on his face, but it looked sad. We were silent; neither of us knew what to say. His expression made me want to cry out in despair, but I could not make a sound. It felt like my voice was stuck somewhere in my throat. I opened my mouth and tried to scream, but nothing came out.
“Joshua,” I said, my voice hardly audible at all. “Joshua!”
A pair of hands grabbed my arms and tugged sharply, dragging me off. I tried to fight them, but I felt so weak.
“Goodbye, Elsa,” the boy said, still standing with his hands on the bars, smiling sadly. He was fighting back tears, refusing to cry in front of me.
I realized that I was not the one behind bars. It was he, the boy that looked so much like me. I flailed, I clawed, I kicked — I needed to be with him. Yet, it was no use. Defeated, I hung helplessly, the guards dragging me away from the one person I could trust in my life. He told me it would be okay.
I opened my mouth to scream to him, but still nothing came out. I felt tears dripping down my cheeks and I fought harder to yell. 'Joshua, don’t leave me. Joshua, I love you. Please, you can’t leave me!' Suddenly the guards were gone, and I was in front of him with a gun in my hands. His hands fell to his sides and he bowed his head. He spoke softly, “Take care of Mom for me.”
Then there was a gunshot. He fell to the floor, lifeless.
The gun fell to the ground with a clatter. It was lying in front of my feet and I stared at my hands. Somehow, they were stained in dry blood. I struggled to get away, but the hands held me closer and pulled me away.
'Joshua!'
