Synopsis: Dancing On Hot Coal
Silence. Pure, heavy, resounding. A sudden movement, a fresh position and then the beating of the music. Practised movement of feet, perfect synchronisation, and then the ultimate finale. Heart thumping, breathing hard, each blister worth the end result.
Dancing means the world to eighteen year old June White; more than drinking, more than going out, more than her friends even. She has one dream, and one dream only; to get accepted at Darlington's Dance Academy in London.
Born in a small town, a rare opportunity arises and Carmen is enrolled at the Academy with a full scholarship because she has the natural talent of dance, the passion for it.
The colours fly. Carmen's dreams are going to come true. She is going to attend the best institution for dance and her widowed father means more to her than ever before because he has let her go. Professional new teachers, new learning experiences, continuously spinning in circles with the dances.
But then disaster strikes.
Everyone's staring at her. They're pitying her. The pointed looks, the disappointed glances, the stalking. They're all following her. She knows they are. They're out to get her, to destroy her, to crush her. All of them; in the audience, backstage, even the people she sits with at lunch. To perform would be to risk her life. The stage is her enemy. Why couldn't she see it before? Get away. Get away fast. Leave. Leave everything behind.
Spinning? Yes, she's still spinning... And seeing the blur of colours. Spinning hot, spinning fast, spinning hopelessly out of control...
