Excerpt: Inspired
It’s not often that mortals stumble into the Elven glade of Remicadia.
“Actually, the statistics are approximately two every seventy eight years.”
The fact came readily at the lips of the young elf girl who happened to be sitting and reading on a nearby rock. She set her book down gracefully and looked at the mortal in question.
That moral would be me, a mild mannered young professional in a slightly ill fitting charcoal suit. How I got into the random patch of beautiful wilderness from the city’s park where I took my lunch every day was a bit of a mystery.
“Usually it’s by fairy circle. Actually, about 9 times out of 10 that is the case,” the elven girl answered my unspoken question.
She appraised me with a sort of smug look on her face as though she was pretty sure she knew the kind of person I was. I stood up a little straighter hoping to make a better impression. I realized then that I was still holding a half eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my left hand. Sheepishly I tucked it behind me and tried to look nonchalant about it. The elf pursed her lips a bit.
