Synopsis:

Explore the life of character XYZ, a genius who in the later years of his life suffers from mental illness (namely schizophrenia). Time is spent chronicling the major events in XYZ's life, one of which includes falling madly in love with a fellow intellect, character ABC. They grow incredibly close and she inspires his greatest works. They marry later on. Eventually, XYZ's neurotic and warped sense of reality force him to retire to a 'minimum security' asylum. While removed from society, XYZ creates a series of memoirs on various topics. Throughout the novel, sections of these writings will be read by men that are posthumously examining XYZ's incredible life. Near the end of the novel, it becomes apparent that ABC has in fact been a schizophrenic delusion and XYZ must cope with the reality that his one true love is no more that a figment of his warped imagination. He then plunges intno a deep depression. He writes frenetically on metaphysical topics. At the end of the novel, XYZ decides to embrace his delusions and creates a series of actions that force him to fall into his mental illness (and possibly a higher security asylum), thus allowing him to slip from reality and spend the rest of his life with his one true, albeit imaginary, love.
