Excerpt: Angel

Prologue

First of all it must be said that Gaston Leroux got everything wrong.

Of course, in all fairness, it must also be said that that wasn’t necessarily his fault. He is a reporter and as we all know they are notorious for getting everything wrong, but in this instance I’m sure he tried to faithfully record a story he believed to be true.
He was purposely misled.
I never imagined that I would be telling my story – especially after all this time. I have spent the last thirty years keeping the secret of what really happened deep in the vaults beneath the Paris Opera House. I am only breaking my silence now because there is one who needs to know the true story.
So I will write down what really happened so long ago. I will look back and I will tell the truth about Erik – the man I called my Angel…
