Brief Author Bio:

Hi all. This is my first year of attempting the NaNo! I'm actually really excited for this. I'm hoping I do okay! My goal is at least 10K words if not all all 50K!

I've always thought about doing this, but what really pushed me into it was the fact that a few of my friends did it last year. And one of them won! That really pumped me up. This year, I'm ready to take on the challenge that is the NaNo! Woman vs. Word! GRRR! Bring it, NaNo! :D

Excerpt: Ad Astra Per Aspera

It wasn’t just sand she had been digging through. First it was a layer of sand, the fine particles embedding themselves in her long nails as she dug. The next layer was pebble, then hard, jagged rock. Then sharp crystal… her fingers bled, nails chipped, but the thrumming in her chest urged her to keep digging. After chipping away at the crystalline structure with nothing but bare hands, she came upon what she was meant to find… and the thrumming in her chest melded into one constant buzz…
Her eyes widened at the sight. It was beautiful, and it was something she would’ve definitely stolen back in Arcadia, had she seen it then. The blood on her hands streaked the translucent, glowing ball as she carefully put it into her hands, her chest still buzzing like a chorus of a thousand bees.
“This is what you wanted me to find…?” Ainsley questioned softly as she stared into the bright, blinding glow of the globe she held. She was mesmerized; her eyes seemingly drawn to the fragile ball of glowing light for eternity. But what was it? Some artifact from long ago? A naturally occurring crystal? Something left behind in the dust of former nations? She couldn’t tell… and didn’t have time to.

The distinctive ‘click’ of a gun being cocked rang through the air behind her…

And her heart raced…
