Excerpt: Vacancy
Engel put his sunglasses on and looked around. News crews were already staring to appear; it wouldn’t be long before the incident was splashed across evening newspapers and local TV. Someone involved in the scene would probably sell a story for a considerable amount to one newspaper and he would have to save face and appear on TV again. It seemed to happening more frequently lately. Anything remotely interesting was blown up out of all proportion by the press. It was as if they were willing crime on the area, just so they had something interesting to write about.
‘What do you think?’ Grizzly asked.
‘I don’t know. I don’t think anyone at the hotel is involved.’
‘Links to the other case?’
‘I’m not sure. That red fabric is concerning me just a little bit.’
‘What do you make of the body?’
‘It’s a mess. Whoever he was, the killer tried their hardest to ensure that we couldn’t trace him. There’s no fingerprints, he had no teeth, hell even the skin off his face has been removed. We certainly can’t put a press release together saying we’re looking a blonde man in his mid to late thirties that disappeared some time ago.’
