Excerpt: The Drifters

“I hear it’s a devil you’re chasing, Miss Dresden! A devil among devils, at that; one who’s got your benefactor in a bit of a twist.” Sommerset chuckles, tenting his fingers. “They’re saying he’s got a firm grip on the land of The Lost, my dear—and once you go there, mark my words, you don’t come back.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Not where his word is as good as law.” His gray eyes narrow, but his grin is sharp. “You’re in over your head with this one. You’ll be lucky if you last a day in the devil’s territory.”

“Last I checked, devils have better places to be than some shithole town in Texas, so I think I’ll do just fine.” Rising, Emily snatches the rosary beads out of Sommerset’s hands. “Pleasure doing business with you.”
