They were here. He was surrounded.
Mordecai’s hand began to shake and a cold sweat beaded on his forehead. He was going to fail. The first unholy thing was only an arm’s breadth away, slowly lifting its rancid flesh to reach for him, fingers skeletal where skin and sinew had already rotted off. Mordecai felt a scream building in his chest like a suppressed cough that needed to be released. He fought against it, tried to be brave, but it was no use. The bones brushed his skin.
