Excerpt: Or Else
Marc was having a hard time believing how nice his father was being. He had an even harder time believing that his father was going to be able to pay for their dinner for that night. His father hadn't been working for a few years now and was just starting to run out of his unemployment insurance money. The only other way Marc knew where his father would get money is during the moments after his father's little hobby of getting rid of people.
He remembered one day when he was younger, around eleven or twelve. He was with his father on a winter night when David killed a young woman at her secluded winter cabin. Marc was forced to sit on her couch while his father would slap and throw her around and was forced to watch every minute of it. He remembered the woman's final moments of her life. His father was choking her as she stared into Marc's eyes. He always remembered her eyes staring at him. They were alive and moving one minute, then the next they glazed over and become cold. She was obviously dead and right before David took Marc to leave, he grabbed her purse and took everything she owned in her wallet including hundreds of dollars.
Marc quickly came back to reality in the restaurant. His eyes were widen and his mouth was open a bit.
