King Cerywn's Spy
an excerpt

“Not to Elleryon my dear Amina, not yet in any case but eventually, I would like you to go back there, you and my Cerwyn. And Hallad will join us there too, once I have conquered the Isles.” He turned then, to hug me gently and carefully cup the head of Ioan. “My grandson” He said it with a wonder that almost charmed me in to a smile, until I remembered what he would do to him, what he would have him become. “You have given me so much Amina, my daughter and this little boy, this is only the latest. You shall have everything, just as you both deserve.”
“What shall be my fate than?” Cerwyn it appeared, had woken up though I thought by the slight flicker of relief in his face that he had been awake from the moment my father had walked in to the tent. Then he turned to me with a smile, “That was unnecessarily dramatic wasn’t it, oh my Amina? Perhaps I should get kidnapped more often so I can work on my conversational techniques”
He turned to me and gave a gentle smile, one that often gave me joy simply to see a glimpse of because it said so much about Cerwyn and his strength. He would, I thought survive whatever my father would throw at him but oh, I hoped it would not be too much. I hoped in vain. Neither Cerwyn nor I had truly reckoned on the depth of my father’s attachment. So when he leaned forward, twined his hand in Cerwyn’s hair and casually claimed his mouth with a kiss it was all I could do not to gasp out loud.
“Do you know what you do to me, Cerwyn? I swear by the Thunder Lord, that you have tormented my thoughts for every minute that you have not been by my side. Thankfully, that is going to change.” There was no doubting then, not with the intensity that was in his voice and the way he was looking at Cerwyn, who had somehow hidden the panic that must be in his eyes.
