Excerpt: Fed In Fear

There was something lurking at the edge of town, something large and hairy and full of malice. It haunted the dreams of the parents, who in turn frightened the children with tales of its horrendous exploits. Do not go past the salt line, they said, do not go past it ever. At night, do not go near it. It can kill you with its sight; its breath is as poison, its roar capable of making men blind. The children willingly obliged; they had heard of what had happened before the salt line had been drawn.
