I don't know about Xanax, but I know from overhearing other's conversations at school that Ritalin usually goes 10-20 dollars a pill.

And the price of pot is determined by its quality. spending $20 one place may get you more or less than $20 somewhere else.

Around these parts (Middle of nowhere MidWest) a dime bag is usually sold for $10 and is about the size of a small plastic jewlry bag. An 1/8 of an ounce sells for around $25, 1/4 for $50. Most people seem to buy 1\8 or 1/4 with the occasional "O" or ounce. I've never heard of anyone buying 3/4 of an ounce, although I suppose it's possible. Like someone else said, the price varies on how good it is as well as how much is in the area or how "dry" a place is. I've also heard of people buying enough for a bowl or joint at around $5.

Hope that helps... now that i've made myself sound like the Biggest Druggie Evah. I'm not, I just go to college and keep my ears open as well as have interesting neighbors and friends.

I have no idea about the pills but I'm pretty sure that around here 2 grams is $20. And a half ounce is referred to as a 'zip'. o.o I have a friend that was actually studying psychotropic drugs, he told me once that he had a friend that had actually written a will leaving him one of his eyeballs to him so he could smoke it. Apparently the human eye contains one of the strongest hallucinogenic drugs, uh, ever I guess. Kinda off topic, but I thought that was bizarre.

In most smaller towns (my realm of experience) a dime bag is called that because yes, it costs ten dollars. Depending on the location and the quality of the weed ("kind bud" or high-potency strands vs. Mexican-or-domestic mass-grown stuff), a dime bag can be a gram or an eighth of an ouce, although if you're buying that small a quantity in schwag (the cheap stuff), you're usually going to get shafted a little just on principle, so it will probably be short. A lot of places a "dime bag" is regularly 15-20 dollars.

What kind of Xanax? The kind most usually found being sold are the 2 mg. purple/blue "football"-shaped tablets, but there are also peach-colored tablets of the same shape and size that are only 1 mg., and long, white bars scored into quarters that are 4 mg. In most cases, the more common purple "footballs" go for 2-5 bucks a piece, the peach ones will go for a dollar or two if the customer even knows what they are, and the 4 mg. bars, since they're not *really* meant to be taken all at once and therefore aren't as time-released, will go for 10 bucks each, sometimes 15.

Since you're talking about a high-school student, I'm going with the premise that the drugs being exchanged are the usual "filched this out of my mom's medicine cabinet" type, in which case, higher-income schools/students will have more access to the purple "footballs", while lower-income students/schools would be more likely to be dealing in the bars (they were pretty much pushed for and introduced for two purposes: mental institutions where larger doses are needed, and the uninsured who need meds to keep from going batshit crazy but can't afford to pay for rent, much less expensive drugs, which leads to certain drugs being manufactured in "dosages" that are only rarely going to be prescribed, because they end up being cheaper when you break them in halves or quarters.)

Ritalin prices are all over the place, depending on the season, the school, the buyer, the seller . . . unlike street drugs or those pillaged from the folks' stashes, most Ritalin on the market in schools is prescribed to the supplier. Some of them are entreprenurial-minded and set up a steady business; most just pawn them off here and there for what they want at the moment. A Ritalin can get you 20 bucks, or someone over-aged to buy you beer, or a short bag of schwag, or a ride to the next state to hook up with that crazy chick on MySpace.

If your high school student (the buyer) doesn't have a lot of connections already, scoring everything on your list from one person would run him at least 75 bucks, and that's in a community that's kind of a suburb. In a smaller town, the weed will get more expensive and the pills might get cheaper, in a larger one, the weed gets both better and more expensive, and the pills are maybe more expensive but a little easier to come by. He's probably going to need to talk to at least two people, unless he's already in a party crowd, in which case he'll still need to to talk to at least two people, but they'll already be friends.

Marijuana:
$2-3/joint, $10/eighth, $20/quarter, $40/half
and so on, unless the dealer gives "deals":
$20/quarter, $30/half, $50/ounce
Of course, it's all "schwag". For " 'dro" ("hydro") it's considerably more expensive for A LOT less.

Xanax:
I've only seen people buy "bars", and they go from $1 each to $4 each, depending on the dealer.

Ritalin:
There's a rampant exchange of ritalin and other mental meds for money and goods in the middle school and junior high where I live. The prices really aren't regulated because most kids that age don't know any better. My sister-in-law (who is 11) said a boy offered her $5 for one of her pills (she's autistic and needs mood regulating drugs); when she refused, he also offered to carry her books around for the day, and other such favors.

And no, I'm not a big time drug user either. I just happen to be from the kind of place that makes most people want to do drugs, so most of the people I know are on some thing or another. I don't judge people on that unless they let it ruin their lives....

if you're characters are taking xanax, they likely won't be smoking low-quality marijuana. $50-$60/eighth is standard price for high-quality marijuana in the US.

Here pills usually cost $5, LSD cost $8, and marijuana cost $40 an eighth (3.5 grams). Though I did once get a quarter for $60. Haven't seen the guy since. :(

Wow, some of you people buy some cheap ass weed. A dime bag or sack is indeed $10. The amount can vary, because there's not standard weight. usually it's about 1/24th of an oz....about enough for two joints or so. depending on quality, weed is generally 30-40 bucks for an eigth (of an oz). I just bought 3/8 for 100 bucks, so it really varies depending on how much you buy.
Ritalin is more varied in price, because it's usually bought directly from the person to whom it is perscribed. Some people sell their pills for 1-5 bucks a peice, depending on how hard a bargain they drive.
I'm not sure about the third drug....
