I'm not exactly sure what genre my story falls into. I registered it as Chick Lit but I'm not quite sure.
It's about these two rich girls who decide to take a year off before college to pursue their dreams.
It's kind of RENT meets Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
What do you think?
Chick lit?

I have no experience with either Rent or CoaTDQ, but here's my $0.02:

I think it'll depend on how you write it, and it might not even fall into any particular genre. I'd suggest not worrying too much about how to categorize your book. When you start writing it, and as you spend more time in the genre forums, you'll start to get an idea for what direction it's heading in. You could either just go ahead and label it "chick lit" for now and change it later if you decide that's not what it is, or label it "other" or "mainstream fiction" and then relabel it later if you decide that it is definitely chick lit.

Either way, I think that it's likely to change as you write it, so the label you give it now may not remain with it through all of November, or even in the planning stages this month.

Imperfection0893: I know what you mean! When I started planning, I wasn't sure if my plot fell into Chick Lit or not, and as I've continued to plan, I've waffled back and forth between genres... and I figure I probably won't be satisfied with whatever I try to label it until November is over and I've got the words down on the page. But I guess that's okay! Or at least, it'll have to be. Haha. :D
