First of all, hello. If you don't know me, I'm Bruce. I'll be your Municipal Liason this year. Welcome aboard! I hope to have a lot of fun, and to get everybody through this alive! lol I'm sure you'll have questions, and I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability.
First of all, there WILL be a kick-off party, as soon as I can get an idea of how many people are signing up. The slowness of this forum isn't helping in that regard, but hopefully we'll have time to get a list, and get some communication going. This will help me determine where it will be. It'll be a completely informal affair, designed to get us acquainted with one another; probably at a restaurant. Don't bring your laptop, unless you just want to show it off!
As far as write-ins: I'd like to meet weekly, at least. I've been meeting with a small group on NaNo'ers since last January, at either Barnes & Noble on International Speedway Blvd, or Panera, right down the street. Personally, and for write-in purposes, I prefer Panera. The seating is better and there are outlets, if you need battery backup for your laptop. I've spoken to the manager, and he has told me that if we want to schedule regular meeting times, he'll have a spot available for us.
For now, let me know who you are, if I don't already know you. My email address is: novadude64@yahoo.com. I hope to see you this November, and beyond, if you'd like. Let's have some fun!
~Bruce

The site being slow as a snail isn't really helping, either.
Anyway, tomorrow, Sunday October 14th, ten am to noon (or thereabouts), at the Barnes and Noble on the Speedway, some NaNo-ers will be meeting - news on the kickoff party is expected, so be there or be ....somewhere else!
I seem to have designated myself message deliverer of sorts. Oh, well. ^^ Hope to see some other aspiring novelists over there.

Okay, so it's official: our kick-off party will be on Thursday, Oct. 25th, at the Daytona Ale House on U.S. 92, out near I-95. Turn in off ISB just west of the Krystal, and make a left. We'll be on the "restaurant side" to the left of the big main bar. That way we can still order drinks if we want them, we can eat, or we can just socialize ... or all of the above, hopefully! So far, there are 6 of us NaNo'ers planning on being there, along with our husbands/wives/children/cats ... (NO! NO CATS! lol) Please look for us, and let me know if you're coming ahead of time, so we know how many tables or booths to commandeer (novadude64@yahoo.com).
We're planning on starting at 7:00 PM, so everyone will have time to grab showers and get as 'gussied-up' as they want. We'll be grabbing some photos throughout the evening, so brush your teeth! Me, I'll be in as casual an outfit as is legal in Florida, which probably means jeans & a t-shirt, unless I get one of those "You're not going in THAT, are you?" things from the wife. No tux; I can guarantee you that!
Please come have fun with us that night. If you're even half-committed to NaNo (enough to read this post) come on out, and we'll see if we can get you fired up. I'm excited! Last year I wrote in solitude, which made it more agonizing because I didn't know I had a bunch of locals going through the same thing, and I could have used the 'push' that camaraderie provides.
Hope to see you locals there!

Awesome! I'll try to be there. Looking forward to chatting with some others in this area. Usually when I start rambling on about NaNoWriMo, my friends just look at me with that polite "if we don't move suddenly, she might not hurt us" look on their faces.
See ya soon,

Cool! Looking forward to getting to meet both of you there, along with seeing some of the others that I already know. They're a nice bunch, so it should be lots of fun.
I've ordered the ML kit, with whatever 'swag' comes with it, so we'll at least have stickers & such, to identify us to the "normal people" when we go somewhere, and perhaps give them a chance to avoid us! lol

I think we all are, Maggie! I'm trying SO hard not to think about my novel, because I don't want to burn out on the whole concept before my fingers hit the keys! Still, it seems like f o r e v e r until we can get started. After the kick-off party we'll really be ready, huh?
See you Sunday at Panera! :-)

Can you hear that mewling sound, Mags? That's me, asking nicely. I'll get with you again over what I want to put up. Maybe you can help this oh-so-untechie person! Thanks again for the offer.
Today was good, meeting-wise. Laurie & I decided you'd been 'doing' caffeine before you got there, despite your claim that it doesn't affect you! LOL j/k; I really enjoy your enthusiasm, so much! (I'd let you wear the cheerleading uniform I posted about on the 50's thread, but the joke is probably best left alone! LOL)
See you Thursday night! (next post)

Hi, NaNo'ers! If you just logged on, it's set: Thursday night at Daytona Ale House @7:00, we get dooooowwwwwnnnn!
Directions: Turn off International Speedway Blvd. at the Krystal restaurant just east of the I-95 on-ramp (Krystal is across from the Raceway gas station.) Make a left before you get to the strip mall where Michaels and SteinMart are, and head north past Indigo, towards I-95 again. The Ale House is right up against the interstate. They serve alcohol, but we'll be on the left as you head inside, on the restaurant side, and anyone can get drinks if you want from the bar in the center of the building.
I hope to see you all there. It'll be fun to meet everybody, and see just who is out there. Email me if you can't make it, okay?

Wow! I know. I still have yellow "floaters" in my eyes from wearing it! LOL Lots of people liked it, tho, so it was worth it...
GREAT PARTY!!! I was just emailing you about it. I may not sleep! OMG. Chris's article brought them in out of the woodwork! I was so happy with the turnout. Last year we only had, like, 7 people total on the forums, and I have at least 18 of us committed to do this, plus a couple more at work! Yowza!
Gotta sleep, somehow. I've got drag races to go to tomorrow, and a 70% chance of rain. *sigh*

Hey everyone!
I know there is a write-in set up for a month of Sundays already, but...
are there any others out there in WriMoLand who work nights or can only meet in the evenings???
I, myself work overnights, and so cannot attend the day time write-ins at Panera.
Perhaps our ML, Bruce :) could see if it would be feasible to have a second group who meets in the evenings???

You're also welcome to come to the TGIO party, sometime in December!

I agree with you. Sunday mornings just don't work for me. The one morning I was able to stop by I didn't even see the group and upon entering Panera Bread I decided it wasn't a venue that I could do much of anything in that morning. Any other ideas for places or times?

Alex, Jamie, David... and anyone else who sees this and wants to come:
I'm going to hold a write-in Friday evening. Also at the Daytona Panera, from 6:00 PM on. I hope you can all make it. I'm not sure if I can meet every week, but it will give you guys a chance to attend, and you may decide to continue them there or somewhere else. Alex and Jamie will have gotten my group email, hopefully.
David, it was good to meet you on Sunday. We had a fairly small group, and the writing was excellent! A few of us stayed until around 1:30, and the restaurant got pretty crowded, but it was surprising how most people glanced at the little NaNoWriMo writing tents I had on the tables, had a curious look, but left us alone. We may have scared them!
I chose Panera because of the location, and because of the free wi-ri (I use dictionary.com and google a lot for reference). I'm not sure how busy it will be at that time on Friday evening, but it's worth a try. A few of us brought iPods to block out the distractions ~ some of them even turned them on. *hint*
Anyway, hope to see some writers there. We'll try to be way in the back, where I can run my power strips out. Happy writing!
~Bruce
