First off, I'm a poet, and I don't have any other writers (of any genre) in my day-to-day life. I still keep in contact with some friends I went to school with, but no one in my family or work environment write. I notice this even more now that I'm revving up for NaNo. This is my first time at it and I'm excited to talk about it (but not TOO much) but no one writes!

So, just to get another topic rolling here, are you guys lucky enough to have a community of writer friends, or do you find yourself like me, with no other writers in your daily life to talk to?

Hi Melissa-

This is my first NaNo as well. I don't have people in my personal life who write - my family and friends hardly even read, let alone write. I do, however, have a great community of people online in the forums at absolutewrite and the sites that I write for, Suite101 and BellaOnline. It's nice to have some place to go where people understand and can relate! :)

Hello, Melissa and Elizabeth! Welcome to the NWO/Toledo Forum!

Melissa, I'm guessing you live in the Toledo area or Toledo is at least accessible to you....several of The Usual Suspects on this forum are also members of the Northwest Ohio Writers Forum, which is a real-time group of writers of all genres including poetry. We just had a meeting today (10/20) and will meet again 11/17.

For more information about the group, visit www.nwowf.com.

Also, during NaNoWriMo, this group tries to meet face to face once a week....usually in the cafe at Barnes and Noble on Monroe Street but maybe this year we'll mix things up!

Keep an eye on the board here for more information!

Writing can be a very solitary pursuit, especially if your family or friends don't "get it" or understand your need to write. This group, and the NWOWF, are very encouraging, welcoming, and just a fun bunch of people. :-)

The Other Elizabeth ;-)

Let's see... I have two online friends/writing buddies that I talk to on a more or less daily basis. I consider myself lucky to have them, because one's fantastic for tossing ideas around (heck, we managed to spawn a webcomic out of random chatting), and the other's really good for after the first draft is done.

And thanks, Captain, for the NWOWF link! I saw it mentioned by a few other people, and was starting to wonder about it. ^_^

I actually DO happen to know one. As a courtesy, I don't pick her brain too much when I'm writing something, but she did help me get through a certain tough spot in my last novel. She once threw out the possibility of co-writing something (I don't know how serious she was).

Hi All,

I just joined NaNoWriMo and I am exctied about the challenge of 50,000 words in one month... I usually travel for work, however I will try to attent the NWOWF meetings if I am in town.

Hope to hear from the local writers as we move closer to November 1st.

Hello, newcomers! Welcome aboard!

My dialup has been causing problems and I've been slow getting around to say "hi" to everyone.

There is a schedule of upcoming meetings posted in NaNo meetings, Captain's notes thread, but just as an FYI, the next get together is Tuesday, November 6 at 7 at the Barnes and Noble on Monroe Street. Come any time after 7 (or before if you like)....look for the silly noisy people in the cafe. That will be the crew of the Black Quill, knee deep in grog (aka: coffee).

Best of luck with your NaNo projects!

Liz, aka: CaptSwann
