Three or four times per week, I have an "ah-ha" moment and I get a brilliant idea for a novel. Some ideas I write down, others I just forget a minute later.
But now, when it comes time to pick something to write about, my well is bone dry. The ideas that seemed to brilliant before now seem boring, and anything new I'm thinking of just isn't thrilling me. I want to write about something I'm passionate about, but I can't figure out what that is or where to start.

I feel like I have an infinite field of possibilities and I can't narrow anything down.

Can anyone share some ideas on how to come up with something to write about?

hi, shake.

whoo boy, does this sound familiar!
i can tell you what's helped me is choosing a single image, and focusing on that. getting myself into the picture, so i can experience what the characters feel & think, what the environment feels like. and then just letting it lead me.

i tend to feel overwhelmed when i try to come up with a story 'big' enough for a novel. but i suspect it's like breaking anything else down. you attack it in pieces, you know?

best of luck, next month! (not that you'll need it--you'll do a great job, i'm sure!)

Inspiration...Hmm...
Well, I'm not like most people but usually when I want to begin something I just kind of sit down and WRITE! It can take hours or it can take seconds but what starts with a single sentence of raw emotion (whatever happens to be most on my mind at the time) leads-hopefully- to a whole new world. If you write for a while, letting the words carry you along like a boat out to sea. And once you're out there, you can see where you want to go.
Parodies are always good as are name books/websites, dictionaries, museums, history books...Anything that intrigues you. Julius Ceasar or a grain of sand. If you want to begin with something you're passionate about start thinking about the things you care most about. One of them is bound to spark your interest. And if it's writer's block...So be it! You'd be surprised what an interesting story that can make!
