This is a historic moment!
Thailand has its very first own forum on NanoWriMo!!

Welcome everybody.

I am Anette and bangkokwriter and i am the ML for Thailand.

Last year, we had a small informal group of writers from Thailand and Laos. we organised a lot of write-ins, mostly on ms messenger, and we ALL made it to 50,000 words! and it was a great experience for us.

Certainly for me!!

I am planning a 'face' meeting on 31 October at the Starbucks Emporium to get us all going and i will be here online most of the time.

I want to write my next novel!!

Please contact me

Anette

Yay, Thailand forum!
I live in London, although I was born in Bangkok and lived there until I was about 4. I can speak Thai; I just can't read or write it.

with friends meeting again!

Tom - we had such a great and productive time last year.

Rammi - i think you signed up last year too?

talking about last year, i think everyone wrote in English but it is absolutely possible to do NaNo in thai. the only problem would be the word count - there would have to be some kind of pro rata arrangement I think.

i'm already plotting...

Many thanks to Anette/Bangkok Writer for setting up our very own Thailand forum (with writers in Laos awarded full citizenship rights!). It was so awful last year when they consigned us to the outer darkness of 'Asia Elsewhere' because we were almost all newbies! Huh! Every single one of us made it over the 50,000 line last year, thanks to the tremedous group support we gave each other particularly over those amazing weekend cyberspace write-ins. I have distant memories of writing about 11k over the space of two days as the end of November drew near. If we can do the same again this year, we'll all be winning once more. Fingers crossed!

I have got to be better organised this year as my mother is arriving in BKK on 20th Nov, so if it ain't almost finished by then, I'll be in trouble.

At least I'm slightly further forward than I was this time last week. In the past seven days I have:

- definitely decided to Nano whereas I had been dithering around (the excitement and adrenalin levels are rising already!)
- bought this year's t-shirt and ordered a Nano mug all to make sure that I am suitably atired and encouraged to keep going (just got to hope it all arrives in time!)
- got a title (amazing!)
- got a vague idea for a plot, structure and a handful of characters

In other words, I'm ready to Nano!

Blondie/Janet

P.S. I also remember that a lot of my writing had to be done between 5 and 7 in the morning . . . . I'd forgotten about that . . .

Myao Myao! Raven Adventwings reporting in!

Last year was a blast, I'll tell you that! Too bad I couldn't go to Bangkok for the End of NaNo party you guys had *Sniff* Either way, I'm glad I have so many good friends who helped me on through all the long days and weeks. Especially Neil, who won back his 1,000 dollars he lost to me. Hahaha.

A great big congrats to everyone here in the Thailand Forum! And a big thank you to Anette as well for being our ML!

*ahem*

Anyways, I have a few announcements for this year's NaNo:

1. I will be writing Sci-Fi again... Giant Robots! This year will revolve around Mech Warrior-style machines with the atmosphere of 08th MS Team. Or Front Mission, if you don't know what the 08th is.
2. I will also be rewriting Ferisa Katena alongside this project as well. No kidding. *Crosses his fingers*
3. I won't be here on the 30th. T^T

About the 30th, I will be on a plane down to Bangkok (Suwannabhumi International) on a connecting flight to Johannesburg, South Africa for a Global Consultation. I won't be back until the 7th of November. Maybe I'll see you guys at the airport? Maybe not? Hehehe.

This year, I'm going to make it before the 30th! Ottsu!

Haha, they say the second year is the hardest. Damn it.

oh yes I remember Raven was cutting it very very close - and Blondie wrote almost 20,000 words on one day - that fateful Saturday when all of us were writing together. that was an incredible experience. i remember i hit 50,000 and had to buy a Bavarian beer.

i don't think it's going to be any harder this year than last - except that i'm working full time and looking for another job and - various other things so yes maybe it will be harder.

on the other hand, Kai from Hanoi wrote 100,000 words the first year and certainly a lot more than 50,000 the next.

it was so exciting having Chanpeng and now again - we are actually a two for one country forum here.

i'm excited

Wow, I can really feel the excitement on the forum already. It's going to be a fun November.

I'd love to join up with everyone on the 31st - unfortunately, I'll be driving down to Vientiane from Xieng Khouang that day. Just think of winding roads, mist, mountain views and car sickness while you're drinking lattes!

I did a very silly thing - I started working on an idea in one of the online writing prompt groups that I belong to - and the story is already at 4000 words and is continuing to grow already. Drat. I'll have to find another idea. Or maybe write the sequel, I guess.

I remember getting really inspired, or rather frantic, the last few days of NaNo last year. That was fun - in the geeky way that writers like to have fun. I don't know if anyone else would understand.

Our forum certainly gets the two in one category - cost effective? Anyway, when I'm in Vientiane, I can see Thailand.

Hi all

I'm actually in the UK but I grew up in Thailand and feel like it's my home, so I'll probably be hanging out on this forum a bit- not to mention the fact that Thailand or Thai stuff will probably be in my novel somewhere. Great to see you've got you're own forum :)

It's getting colder and I wish I was there...

Tori.

And now just two more days to go. I think I even have an idea for a plot.

I should be able to be glued to my seat with hands on keyboard on Sunday afternoon. That will be fun to meet up and get some writing done.

Ahh! I still haven't finished drafting my story plot yet~! O_O;

*Frantically types down the overall plot on Notepad*

And hopefully I'll make it before the 30th. I'd hate having to finish my 100k Challenge typing away at an Internet Cafe in Suwannabhumi Airport. :p

Hmm... We should have a NaNoDare! thread up or something just for us in the Thailand forum.

Advent hasn't finished drafting a plot? Some of us have barely started! And we've less than 24 hours to go to the starting line. Oh dear! But I did have a piece of overnight inspiration - I now have a name for the character who kicks off my opening chapter and a few ideas floating around in my head about what will happen in that chapter. So that should be my first day's 2,000 quote taken care of . . . . provided I sit down and write it, of course! Watch those daily totals tomorrow to see if I managed!

I'm going to miss the kick off event at Starbucks. So sorry, but I'm stuck in freezing cold London (OK, I'm lying, today it's relatively warm . . . relatively . . .) till 17th. Enjoy! I'm all set for my own kick-off event - I ordered a NaNo 2007 t-shirt and a NaNo coffee mug and they arrived yesterday. So I'm all set and soooooo excited.

I will be online for the write-in on Sunday 5th. See you in cyber-space!

Happy novelling!

Wish I had seen the meeting announcement before this evening. I am in the Big Mango and would be interested in meeting up with other NaNoWrIMo'ers. I've never done this before, have no plot, vague characters, and very little free time between now and November 30th. Ahh well . . . should be interesting. I figure that *any* words are better than the none that I currently have written.

Is anyone setting their book in Thailand?

Last year I set my novel in Thailand, but this year it's set in London with possible side trips to China. Last year, our group had novels set all over the place, with Advent's fantasy novel being totally out of this world! Just go with the best location for your characters or your plot.

I wouldn't worry about having written no words yet - we're not at the starting line so nobody is supposed to have written anything so far. Hold on till midnight. I was short of writing time last year, but pulled myself over the finishing line with a monumental 12k in the final weekend. The cyber-space write-ins are what got me there, so I really recommend you sign up for those - I think the first one is Saturday at 5 p.m. That's what got all of us to the 50k target last year, the team support and knowing everyone was there (wherever 'there' was) for everyone else.

Good luck!

so exciting...

and i'm already so exhausted.

from now on it's word count upload and write ins all the way.

since i'm working at something OTHER than being a writer this year I am going to keep my msn messenger wildfire186@hotmail.com open a lot of the time.

this way, anyone who has time and is on messenger can just ping me and see if i've got 30 minutes for writing or so.

maybe other people would like to do that too? i remember that this developed over the last nano and seemed to work quite well.

but i am also still calling the first write-in on sunday 5PM Bangkok time.

and now for the writing...

the wonderful word count function, you know where you can upload your manuscript and it tells you how much you've written, seems not to be working yet this year.

i've tried to make enquiries and will keep you posted.

it's a bit hidden anyway, it's under 'author profile' and you have to set it to 'edit profile'.

then a box should appear where you can put in your word count.

well, it's almost half past midnight and i've written 575 words.

i just had to say that...

I'm going to bed now. I just had to stay up and get a few words thrown out there in a half hour. 535 - if I could do that for 1 1/2 hours/ day then I wouldn't have a problem.

Chanpheng! this is great! so you've been writing too? right now? like me?

re word count:

you also have to set your time zone to 'local time'. aha.

so: go to 'edit profile', then 'author info' then scroll down until word count boxes appear.

please set to local time zone.

ha!

Not good... not good...

The power went out at CMU last night since 11 pm. NeNeNe gave in at half past midnight, so I had to stop with a little under 300 words written down.

Oh, well. *Sigh* more writing this afternoon, then. I do have the rest of the day off after my mroning class, after all. Yay!

And I'm more inspired than ever after having played a Thai visual novel. But I'm afraid my story's going to get too deep and complicated to put down on paper! ^_^;

EDIT: Umm... My bad, I actually had about 500. Still, that's a long way from my daily goal and still a long way from the quality I had in mind.

*Sigh* I can't "see" it for some reason... please tell me why... =(

Weird about the time zone - it has been set correctly on my profile and the time of the post is 00 41. Might be a glitch with the site. It happens.

Now I'm back from work and the temple fair, in celebration of the Si Khai boat races on Saturday, is in full swing. Problem is that they set on of the bouncy slides in front of my driveway, so I can't escape. The good point is: ear plus + beer + escape to the far side of the house = writing.

I had a nice messenger chat this afternoon with our friend kairo from last year.

(you know the writer who wrote 100,000 words in nano 2005?)

he has only just decided to join this year and we will probably see him around.

I was wondering if Kairo was going to show up with us again this year. I've been watching the Vietnam thread in Asia:Elsewhere (you know, that undefined place of outer darkness to which we were consigned last year) but he hadn't shown up there either. He's my inspiration for this year as I recall his mother turned up half way through NaNo 2006 and he still managed to finish. Hey, what am I talking about? Finish? He wrote the equivalent of two NaNos!

Anyway, I've got my mother arriving on 20th. Got to write as much as possible before then. Anticipating a marathon weekend . . . . . . I know I can do it . . . .

Hi Guys......

Just finally remembered to check in......sadly don't think I'll be able to join this year do to alot of things that I have going on around here...(didn't even get to polish up last year's novel yet...!!) ....but hope you guys all have a great time!!

Last year was a blast....so I think all of you newcomers should have lots of fun this year too....the write-ups were really great. Much thanks to Anette who helped to keep us motivated. Its so great that we finally have a forum of our own!!

Anyway, although I won't be doing nano this year I hope to still check in from time to time...I'll be rooting for you guys as you meet the final last days.....

Have fun!!!

Wowee, look what the yarnball dragged in...

Hello, Myao! I have to admit I am falling drastically behind on my word count. At Day 4, I was supposed to be at 8k at the least... But lookee where I am. Hahaha.

Well, either way, I have to admit I personally wrote 2.2k just in the last 4 hours alone. OK, so it was not really a full 4 hours. Hopefully I'll catch up with my regular writing schedule (sans Ferisa Katena which I decide would be best left to rewrite some other times) as well as keeping up with my class schedules.

I'll be spotty with my Internet Time (blame it on Wireless Deadzones, Hahaha.) but I will try to check back in here regularly. After all, I've reduced most of my life to NaNo and classes. Or so I tried.

"Angel's Tale" still takes up a bit of my time, I admit. =P

OK! Enough with the chatter here. I've got a schedule to catch up to!

Happy NaNo, everyone!
